Amaury Lavernhe is the 2010 IBA World Tour Bodyboarding champion.

The pro bodyboarder from the Reunion Island conquered the Sintra Portugal Pro 2010, after defeating Guillermo Cobo in the final heat.

The 3-4 foot waves of Praia Grande were enough to greet everyone in the beach with a great show of bodyboarding. Lavernhe ended the final minutes surfing with just one fin. It is the first time a French bodyboarder claims the world bodyboarding title.

“I didn’t believe it could be possible to win the title this year”, said Amaury Lavernhe right after the final.

In the Women’s final, the experienced Brazilian Isabella Sousa defeated the Japanese sensation Miya Inoue.

The bodyboarders now head for the last stage of the European bodyboarding leg.

The Deeply Ferrol Pro, in Doniños Beach, North of Spain, will help define the remaining places of the world ranking.

Lavernhe’s best result in the IBA World Tour was achieved in 2007 when he got the third place.

22 seconds.

Personally, I can’t imagine ever seeing it in Cornwall, hurricane or no hurricane. I’ve kept a keen eye on the conditions on a daily basis for a good few years now, and I’ve never seen a 22 second* period swell strike our peninsula. With such a high period, and such a low amplitude, isn’t this a tsunami? LOL Nowhere near. Going into the end of next week looks well tasty though, pray for good winds on it. Perfect SE’s are forecast at the moment. A just reward after a gutless summer so far.

*22 second period forecasted has since dropped to 20 seconds, but the fact remains the same, we don’t get into the 20′s here.

Finally some waves

well, after nearly 5 weeks of lack luster surf everywhere, I had two evening surfs back to back at my local spot, only 2 maybe just 3 footers occasionally rolling in, but hey, they had some grunt to move me along, the spot is generally very quiet & not too many people know about it :0), but it always has the same ol faces from the local scene when its breaking, its like and old school reunion. fingers crossed some more waves will follow soon???

Porthleven Dawny

Chris Levi and myself trundled on down South yesterday and managed to score some big cross shore conditions early on, later joined by Eldred Hawke and Brooke Mason for some sweet low tide, offshore wind, groomed cleanliness, as shot here by Porthmeor’s Jon Grant of http://www.alldayphotography.webs.com

Next week looks like it might throw up some long period power, accompanied by hallowed south easterly winds. Exposed spots on the North coast should really come into their own if their banks are good.

GREENAWAY PRO 2010 HOSTS EPIC STOP FOR BRITISH BODYBOARD CLUB TOUR

Despite being greeted by small conditions, the 24 strong field were as keen as ever to get in the water and battle it out for the prizes on offer and the BBC Tour points. The small but bowly conditions offered contestants short rides with just enough grunt to enable a spin roll combo or two. Early stand-outs Steve Hall and Phil Milsom found enough speed on their waves to mix things up with a few buckets of spray off their reverses.

In the quarter finals, one of the contest favourites Jack Johns missed out on progressing to the next round as he struggled to find two high scoring waves in the fickle conditions.

As the semis were reached, so was the high tide bank which meant the comp went on hold for a couple of hours.

As the tide dropped out, the swell picked up and so did the action. A summer of coaching with Newquay whipper snapper Aidan Salmon paid off for his young protégé Steve Hall with Hall narrowly beating his mentor into the final.

The four man final was made up of the ever consistent Alex Winkworth from Porth Towan, Steve Hall, Saltash’s Aaron Dinham and the now landlocked Remi Reffroy. Hall and Winkworth both opened with high scoring combos with Dinham hot on their heels with his consistent roll spin combos on the right-handers. However, the quiet Geffroy showed all the fitness training had paid off as he scooped into a right which enabled a big float reverse which, followed by a second solid ride sealed the deal.

Saturday night’s after party proved to be a massive success, the only thing bigger was the Sunday morning hang-over… A huge thanks to the Greenaway Pro 2010 for hosting the BBC, we’ll be back in 2011!

Come on, you can do it…

The recent wind chop has done little to alleviate the swell starvation of the last few weeks, however, there is hope. I feel another sacrifice to the swell gods might be in order. I really want this one to pan out going into next weekend.

Jetstream. (swells track along this upper atmosphere flow, it’s what gives swells their direction)

If this holds up, it’s on.
